The price of candy these days

A buck twenty five per kid. Not bad, I thought, considering I got to purchase all but 4 or 5 pieces of their coveted Easter bounty. In attempt to not ruin the fun of the egg hunt and the excitement of the flavorful loot, I found this to be highly effective.

Gabe & Ansley had egg hunts at school today, and there will be a couple more over the next week, so in order to curb the carbs around here, I offered them cold hard cash. After emptying each egg, we sorted it into piles of chocolate, gummies, and hard candy. They chose a few they couldn't live without and in turn I gave them a dollar each for the rest. Then I offered them a quarter if they were willing to hand over 3 more pieces. They were so thrilled to have "their own money". So into the trash it went.....okay, except for that miniature caramel twix that was screaming "SAVE ME" on the way to the can. I saved it....for about 17 seconds.

I feel certain this tactic will be used again in October and at any other time that candy pours in by the basket load. Don't get me wrong....I LOVE CANDY! (Mostly of the chocolate persuasion), but I get sick of it sitting around, finding it's pesky little wrappers lying around, and waiting for it to disappear. And will all that extra candy around a holiday cause any cavities?? Probably not, but if it does, $1.25 is a lot cheaper than a trip to the pediatric dentist!!!!

Sounds like a great plan. Luke doesn't really "get" money yet and his candy just disappears but I will definitely use this idea in the future.
